From Oct. 13 to Oct. 18, during the world-wide famous Frieze Art Fair in London, Royal College of Art, ranked top 5 in all artistic college all over the world, host the very first personal exhibition Yes or No for Shi Shaoping, the artist from Shanghai. More than 40 oil paintings created recently were on the exhibition.
The planer of the exhibition, Mr. Arnold, had a few doubta about Shi Shaoping's first personal exhibition during the Frieze. His words are, "Now, the air of the modern art was everywhere in London. The gravity of the European or even the global field of art is here...... Every night a lot of exhibitions open in local art gallery. So many competitions and disturbance may easily hide Shi's personal exhibition from the ocean of the art."
However, the big success of the opening cocktail party of Shi's personal exhibition proves the quality of the art as well as the artist's charisma.
The party lasted for 4 hours. Celebrities from famous medias in London and artists were all here. Shi Shaoping was communicating with the guests without any rest. He received greetings and praise, mostly surprise. They said that Shanghai was renowned for the economy and fashion, but they never realized the modern art from Shanghai could be so amazing. Bob, the diplomatic relationship expert from London, said that he would bring his post graduates to visit and study. He said that the art like this symbolized the advanced and open art concepts in Shanghai, China. Chinese artists are not those people who only use Political Pop to draw the attention of the world.
Chinese Artists in London, overseas Chinese from different lines, and Chinese Film Festival Committee came to visit and offered greetings after they got the information about the exhibition. According to them, it is unprecedented that this pure art personal exhibition can be prepared in such a short time, with such large scale and high quality, in such a famous and mainstreamed art college which is famous for its professional manner, at such special moment. It would be a great pride and honor for the local Chinese people.
The cocktail party didn't end until the venue management persons repeatedly announced that. Just as exhibition planer Mr. Arnold emphasized again and agin: Shi Shaoping is not only a Chinese artist; he is an artist. Indeed, at this moment, Shi Shaoping belongs to London; Shi Shaoqing belongs to the whole world.
Shi Shaoping's "Yes or No"Series is about the development of life and things. His art is strong with power ,vibrant with life. His mastery of the color is extraordinary and his language of the art is unique. Meanwhile, his rich personal experience and thinking about the society form his ever-changing and solemn drawing style.
Personal Introduction.
Shi Shaoping studied on Oil Painting Major in Zhejiang Art Academy, Film Art Major in Beijing Film Academy and Stage Art in Shanghai Theatre Academy. He used to work in Shanghai Dancing and Sing Group as Stage Designer and organizer. He is currently the Deputy Director of Shanghai Art Fair Committee.
