The Opening Ceremony of the Seventh Shanghai International International Experimental Theatre Festival was held in the front hall of Duanjun Theatre in STA. Distinguished guests who attended this ceremony are: The Chairman Lou Wei, Vice President of STA Gong Baorong, Honored Professor Hans-Georg Knopp, crew members of all seven plays, students and teachers from STA. The opening ceremony was hosted by Vice President Gong Baorong.
The Chairman Lou Wei, who gave speeches in the opening ceremony, extended a warm welcome to theatre groups who came a long way to China from their own country; he also wish a great success for this Mini-theatre Exhibition Performance. Honored Professor Hans-Georg Knopp expressed his expectation and vision for the coming plays in his speech. Pino Di Buduo from Italy Teatro Potlach, Director of 20000 League Under the Sea, talked about how exciting he was for attending this performance and he hoped all the plays will offer audience a spectacular show. Then the Zynaia Theatre of National Schoolof Theatre Arts from Mexico presents their performance of 72 Migrants in Black Box Theatre, which won a wide-spread praise.
The Seventh Shanghai International Experimental Theatre Festival was held in STA from Oct.11 to Oct.18, 2013. Theatres invited are from Germany, Korea, Mexico, Italy, America and Britain, etc. Seven plays will be performed and each play will be showed twice. Those plays are: The Good Person of Setzuan from Folkwang University of the Arts Essen, La Demande d'emploi (situation vacant) from Korea National University of Arts, Caucasian Chalk Circle from Wandering Fools from Columbia University, 72 Migrantes / Altar from Zynaia Theatre, National Schoolof Theatre Arts, The Grey Automobile from Teatro De Ciertos Habitantes, 20000 Leagues Under the Sea from Teatro Potlach, Camille Claudel from Footprint Project.
During the performance there will be more academic activities such as workshops, seminars, photo exhibitions and speeches, etc.
Since the first Shanghai International Experimental Theatre Festival in 1998, this event has become an international theatre performance drawing increasing attention. It is not only a regular ceremonious event for STA, but an important chance for the academic and artistic communication of Shanghai Theatre Stage. The success of the International Mini-theatre Exhibition Performance are based on several aspects: great emphasis and substantial support from all leaders, tolerant cultural atmosphere in the city of Shanghai, full devotion of the scholars and experts who are in favor of the mini theatre, and active participant of the theatre lovers.
This International Experimental Theatre Festival is non-profit-oriented. The average price for the ticket is only about 50 Yuan. The price is acceptable for ordinary audience with the purpose of the promoting the theatre culture and theatre market. We shall have the confidence that the Seven International Mini-theatre Exhibition Performance will bring new blossom to the atmosphere of Shanghai theatre performance and improve the communication and cooperation in culture and art between China and the rest of the world.
