Richard Schechner is a prestigious professor of the Department of Performance Studies in New York University. As the most influential theatre director and theorist in the world, he is reputed as the fourth grandmaster of performance theoretical studies in the 20th century in succession to Stanislavski, Brecht and Mei Lanfang. He is the founder of Performance Studies, one of the most fast-growing emerging humanities in recent years.
