On the evening of 16 February local time, Wang Jingchun, a BA Acting 1995 alumnus of the Acting Department of the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA), won the Best Actor Award at the 69th Berlin Film Festival for his outstanding performance in the film "So Long My Son”.
In 2013, at the 26th Tokyo Film Festival, Wang Jingchun was honored the best actor by his performance in the film “To Live and Die in Ordos”. This was his second entry into the main competition unit of the Berlin Film Festival and, a previous film “Black Coal, Thin Ice” in which he was one of the leading actors had also won a number of awards at the Berlin Film Festival. It is worth mentioning that Liao Fan, who won the Best Actor Award at that time, was a BA Acting 1993 93 alumnus of the STA Acting Department.
It was the second time that the Best Actor Award in the main competition unit of the Berlin Film Festival had been given to a Chinese actor after Liao Fan. The award winning on both occasions has not only won honor for the country, but also highlighted the teaching strength and international influence of the Shanghai Theatre Academy.
