From 3 to 16 November 2019, commissioned by the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban), the overseas tour group of Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) gave touring performances at the Confucius Institutes in La Rochelle, Rennes, Reims and Mulhouse of France and the Confucius Institute in Liege of Belgium, where they presented the wonderful “Charm of Chinese Opera” special performance of selected Peking Opera highlights for overseas audiences, and also performed the Peking Opera literacy education in the form of workshops and lectures etc, thus enabling the audiences to have a deeper understanding of Peking Opera and even traditional Chinese culture.

In the course of this tour, the teachers and students of STA overcame the hardships of the journey and successfully completed the performance task. The good spirit and high level of professional skills shown by the teachers and students of STA boosted the establishment of a good image of Chinese culture in the local communities. The wonderful performances opened “a window” for the foreign audiences, enabling them to see the brilliance of Chinese traditional art and deeply feel the broadness and profundity of Chinese traditional culture, and made a positive contribution to strengthening cultural exchange, enhancing people-to-people friendship and displaying the image of China.
