On 18 November 2019, the International Theatre Institute Partner Organization Meeting was successfully held in Shanghai. This meeting was jointly organized by the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) and the International Theatre Institute (ITI). It was the first time that this meeting had been held in Shanghai since ITI moved the office of its headquarters office to Shanghai. Nearly 20 heads of international organizations from different fields of performing arts such as drama, dance, music etc in China, Asia Pacific, Europe and other regions of the world, were invited to attend the meeting. From STA, Xie Wei, Party Secretary, Yang Yang, Vice President, Gong Baorong, Dean of the International College, Zhang Yunlei, Director of the International Exchange Center, Zong Yu, Office Administrator of the International College, heads of the relevant colleges and departments of STA and Lou Yan, officer of the International exchange center, attended the meeting.
At the opening session, Xie Wei, Party Secretary of STA and Tobias Biancone, Director-General of ITI delivered welcoming speeches on behalf of the organizers of the meeting. After the opening session, all invited organizations introduced their history, mission, values, current situation and future prospects one by one. Yang Yang, Vice President of STA, made the introduction on behalf of STA.
The meeting will last for three days. On 19 and 20 November, representatives of various international organizations will go to STA’s College of Chinese Opera to observe classes, watch the selected highlights of Chinese opera and have an interactive experience, so as to further learn about STA, traditional Chinese art, and the teaching practice and achievements of STA’s College of Chinese Opera at close range; carry out active discussions, exchange the experience of the two-day activities, and discuss the cooperation that can be carried out in the future among the organizations; and conduct workshops to share the knowledge and practice of performance and pantomime with STA students.
The successful holding of this event will help to further strengthen the cooperative relationship between STA and ITI, help STA establish contact and cooperation with many influential international performing arts organizations and institutions, broaden STA's teaching resources, enhance STA's international influence and, at the same time, spread and promote Chinese traditional performing arts in the international arena. STA is willing to work with other organizations to write a new chapter of world performing arts cooperation.
