Fitzmaurice Voicework lands in China for the first time

On 1 January 2018, organized by the International Performing Arts Research Centre of the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA), the open lecture of the "Fitzmaurice Voicework Master Class" was held successfully on the 4th floor of the STA Library. Over 40 trainees and theory researchers from different countries and regions in the world attended the lecture.

Professor He Yan, Dean of Acting Department, STA, introduced Ms Catherine Fitzmaurice, founder of the Fitzmaurice Voicework, and three voice training experts accompanying on this visit. Ms Fitzmaurice is the top voice training master in the world, who has been teaching voice training for nearly 60 years at major arts universities and theatres around the world. Professor He Yan said that he had known Ms Fitzmaurice since his time at the University of South California, USA in 2005 and that many years of efforts by multiple parties had finally led to Ms Fitzmaurice’s first trip to China and that the systematic teaching provided on this occasion will no doubt bring significant impetus and inspiration to actor training and education in China.

Ms Fitzmaurice and her son, Saul Kotzubei who is a master teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework were very grateful for the invitation and sincerity of STA. They provided a systematic introduction about the origin and basic concepts of the Fitzmaurice Voicework, and explained the importance of the key point that "breathing is meaningful". The lecture was conducted in a warm and enthusiastic atmosphere and concluded successfully in the interactive Q & A session between trainers and trainees.
