On the morning of March 11th, amidst a light drizzle, four representatives from the Retirement Office and the Department of Acting visited the Pudong Qinheyuan Elderly Care Facility to celebrate the centennial birthday of retired teacher Yan Zhanghan from the Department of Acting, who now resides at the facility.

The representatives from the Retirement Office and the Department of Acting expressed the university leadership’s heartfelt concern and best wishes to Ms Yan, presenting her with a birthday cake and flowers as tokens of comfort and wishing her health, longevity and happiness. Ms Yan, dressed in a red cotton jacket, greeted everyone with a beaming smile. Upon hearing the news, the elderly care facility staff also came to partake in the celebration, singing a birthday song to honor Ms Yan. The festive atmosphere filled the room, and Ms Yan expressed her deep gratitude to the university and extended her best wishes for its future success and development.

Ms Yan, who joined our university after graduating from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 1950, served diligently as a vocal music teacher in the Department of Acting until her retirement. The visitors included Ms Zhao Yan, the Department of Acting’s trade union chairperson and vocal music teacher, who is both a counterpart and fellow alumnus of Ms Yan, and they enjoyed sharing a delightful dialogue.

Currently, there are 33 nonagenarian retired faculty members at our university. To enhance their quality of life during their senior years, the Retirement Office visited each of these individuals in Shanghai over the Spring Festival, conveying the university's care and regards. For solitary elders like Ms Yan, the Retirement Office has gone further, creating specialized records and coordinating resources of multiple parties to assist the seniors in overcoming daily challenges, thus providing devoted and compassionate service to our esteemed retired colleagues.
