The Trade Union of Shanghai Theatre Academy meticulously organized a series of colorful and diverse activities to celebrate the "March 8th" International Women's Day, sending the highest holiday salutations to all female faculty and staff and highlighting the charm and style of the women at STA.

On March 8, the "Blue Emerges from Indigo—Imperial Yellow Plant Dye Workshop," co-hosted by the Faculty Affairs Department, Trade Union and Women Affairs Committee, took place at the Staff Home on the Huashan Road Campus.

During the event, Associate Professor Shao Min and her team from the Stage Design Department were specially invited to deliver a hands-on experience of the traditional Chinese culture of "Shared Origin of Medicine and Dye" to the female faculty and staff.

Associate Professor Shao introduced various traditional dyes and dyeing techniques, familiarized the participants with a set of purely natural dyes, and explained the principles behind the shared origin of medicine and dye. For instance, the root of "Banlangen" (Isatis indigotica) is a commonly used Chinese herb, the leaves of which can also be used as a dye. Shao demonstrated the "Blue Emerges from Indigo" process using fresh Banlangen leaves, allowing everyone to witness firsthand how blue emerges from indigo.

Subsequently, Associated Professor Shao guided the female faculty and staff members to use traditional methods and natural materials to dye silk scarves in the lively "Imperial Yellow," symbolizing the essence of spring. Everyone present engaged with great enthusiasm and felt greatly rewarded. It was widely expressed that under the nourishment of excellent traditional Chinese culture, our holiday was given a unique and significant meaning.

In the coming week, the Trade Union will also collaborate with the Student Affairs Department and the Faculty Affairs Department to offer sessions on first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, thus enhancing everyone's ability to respond to urgent situations.

As we embrace this most beautiful spring season, let us jointly extend our sincerest wishes for the female faculty and staff of STA to shine with utmost elegance and beauty.
