Large-scale Original Drama "The Outpost" Is Selected to Perform at Commemoration of the 80thAnniversary of the Southwest Theatre Exhibition and the 8th National Excellent Drama Showcase

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism recently issued a notice that attracted widespread attention, announcing that 34 large-scale plays and 5 small theater dramas have been selected for the list of performances for the Commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of the Southwest Theatre Exhibition and the 8th National Excellent Drama Showcase.


Created and performed by the Shanghai Theatre Academy, "The Outpost" has made it to the list of performances.

The event is scheduled to take place from mid to late April to mid-May 2024 in Nanning and Guilin, Guangxi, lasting approximately one month.


The Southwest Theatre Exhibition refers to the "First Southwest Theatre Exhibition" organized in 1944 in Guilin by well-known cultural figures such as Ouyang Yuqian and Tian Han. During the period of the Anti-Japanese War, tens of thousands of cultural figures gathered in Guilin, Guangxi, to engage in cultural activities that contributed to the war efforts, which made Guilin an iconic city of cultural activities again the Japanese invasion. During the Southwest Theater Exhibition, over one thousand theatre practitioners presented more than one hundred plays in Guilin, making it an unprecedented grand event in the history of Chinese theatre.


The year 2024 marks the 80th anniversary of the Southwest Theater Exhibition. Celebrating this significant year with the commemoration event and the 8th National Excellent Stage Drama Exhibition is undeniably a grand occasion for the theatrical community.

"The Outpost" premiered in 2021, and launched its "Youth Edition" in 2023, featuring teachers and students from the Shanghai Theatre Academy as the main cast. The play has been performed in regions such as Beijing, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, and Fujian, including theaters in the hometowns of the "Five Martyrs of the Left League" depicted in the play, as well as renowned higher education institutions like Peking University.
