Recently, Emelianov Sergei, Managing Director of the National Drama Theatre of Russia, and Tolmachev Danil, Deputy General Manager - Development and Digitalization of the National Drama Theatre of Russia, visited the Shanghai Theatre Academy. Huang Changyong, President of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, and Nie Wei, Vice President of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, warmly received the Russian guests who came from afar.
Founded in 1756, the National Drama Theatre of Russia, also known as the Alexandrinsky Theatre, is the oldest state theatre in Russia, and the date of its establishment is considered to be the birth date of Russian professional theatres.
Huang Changyong gave the guests a detailed introduction to the Shanghai Theatre Academy and the history of friendly exchanges between the Shanghai Theatre Academy and the artistic community in Russia. The Russian guests said they are very pleased to learn that the Shanghai Theatre Academy has a long history of friendship with the Russian artistic community, and mentioned that on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in October 2024, the National Drama Theatre of Russia will make a tour in Beijing and Shanghai, and at that time it intends to arrange for the artists of the National Drama Theatre of Russia to visit the Shanghai Theatre Academy theatre to carry out exchanges with the teachers and students and to hold workshops and other related activities. At the same time, they expressed that the teachers and students of the Shanghai Theatre Academy are welcome to give performances or take part in artistic practice at the National Drama Theatre Academy of Russia. Vice President Nie Wei said that the National Drama Theatre of Russia’s project on theatre digitization is very forward-looking, and suggested that cooperation in the field of combining new technology, new media and performing arts be carried out with the Shanghai Theatre Academy.
The two sides also exchanged views on matters such as signing a memorandum of cooperation as the next step. After the meeting, the guests visited the Experimental Theatre and Duanjun Theatre of Shanghai Theatre Academy.
