On 7 June 2023, Ravit Baer, the new Israeli Consul General in Shanghai, and Eytan Halon, Deputy Consul General, visited the Shanghai Theatre Academy. Xie Wei, Party Secretary of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, and Yang Yang, Vice President of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, received the guests.
Xie Wei first introduced the overall situation of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, saying that the people of Shanghai have deep feelings for Israel. Israel is a country with unique history and culture, and has produced many excellent artists. The development of the Shanghai Theatre Academy is inseparable from exchanges with countries around the world, including Israel.
Ravit Baer said that she came to visit STA within 5 months after her arrival at posting because Israel places great importance on culture and art. Israel is a country with active cultural development and rich diversity. Its drama has both European characteristics and Middle Eastern characteristics. Modern dance is also famous in the world. This year, three Israeli drama works will be staged in Shanghai, and a number of dance and film works will participate in events such as the China Shanghai International Art Festival and the Shanghai International Film Festival. In view of the revival of international performances and exchanges, the Israeli Consulate General in Shanghai also looks forward to continuing the friendly exchanges with the Shanghai Theatre Academy and promoting the cooperation between the relevant Israeli professional troupes and the Shanghai Theater Academy.
Vice President Yang Yang expressed appreciation for the suggestions of the Israeli side, and proposed to further the academic exchanges between China and Israel in terms of script translation and publication of articles of theatre criticism, thus enhancing mutual learning and deep cooperation.
