President of STA Huang Changyong and team visit teaching practice partner organizations

During the winter vacation, Huang Changyong, President of the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA), led a research team to visit STA’s teaching practice partner organizations in Beijing and Shanghai. During the visits, all parties involved reviewed the progress and achievements of exchange and cooperation in 2018, fully discussed the further in-depth cooperation and exchanges, and reached a number of agreements.

In Beijing, from 30 January to 1 February, President Huang Changyong visited the National Centre for the Performing Arts, the National Theatre of China, the Central Academy of Culture and Tourism Administration and the China Film Co Ltd. President Huang Changyong and the leaders of the relevant organizations held in-depth discussions and reached a high degree of consensus on such matters as theatre performance, talent training, construction art administration discipline, National Theatre of China Shanghai Base, Central Academy of Culture and Tourism Administration Shanghai Base, and cooperation in film discipline construction etc. During his stay in Beijing, President Huang Changyong also went to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MCC) where he made the report to the relevant leaders of MCC’s Department of Science, Technology and Education. The contents of the report and discussion covered the work of STA’s co-construction with MCC and Shanghai Municipality in the past year, the strategies and planning of STA in establishing a high-level university, the development of disciplines and specializations, the management of projects funded by the China National Social Science Fund, the construction of key laboratories of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the establishment of research bases for the reform and development of culture and tourism, the construction and evaluation of key laboratories at provincial and ministerial levels, and the application for projects funded by the China National Social Science Fund and the China National Arts Fund etc.

From 20 to 21 February, President Huang Changyong and Zhao Jiachen, Deputy Party Secretary and Vice President of the National Centre for the Performing Arts, visited the Shanghai Opera House, the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and the Oriental Art Center. From 3 to 5 March, President Huang Changyong and Chen Ping, Chairman of the Beijing Municipal Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Founding President of the National Centre for the Performing Arts Theatre and Director of the China Theatre Development Research Center, visited the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, the Shanghai 1862 Fashion and Art Center and the Shanghai Data Exchange Center. All parties held in-depth discussions on how the Shanghai Theatre Academy can play its role and make its contribution in Shanghai’s strategies for developing itself into the performing arts capital of Asia, and also focused on exploring how Shanghai would mobilize people's initiative in its performing arts management, as well as the issues faced and measures taken in the process of implementing digital and intelligent management systems in art companies and troupes. Jin Lei, Deputy Director-General of the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, systematically introduced the concept, policies, standards and technologies of promoting the construction of a comprehensive information service platform for the entire performing arts market in Shanghai.

On 4 March, Lou Wei, Party Secretary of STA, held a cordial meeting with the research team in the conference room on the second floor of the Foxi Building, and exchanged views with Director Chen Ping on how to strengthen the construction of the "Research Base for Cultural and Tourism Reform and Development" and the "China Theatre Development Research Center" so as to produce a batch of influential scientific research achievements as soon as possible. A broad consensus was reached on the cooperation between schools and troupes and the connection between industry and schools. All agreed that on the basis of forming an industry ecosystem featuring the trinity of "theatre creation, theatre performance and theatre management", theatre schools will find a way of running the school with coordinated connotation construction and integrated development.
