STA conducts a lecture series on improving teachers' teaching ability

In order to carry out the spirit of the National Education Conference and the Undergraduate Teaching Conference of the Ministry of Education, guide teachers to devote themselves to imparting knowledge and educating people, and improve teachers' professional ability and teaching standards, Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) will carry out the Lecture Series on Improving Teachers' Teaching Ability. At the invitation of the Academic Affairs Office and the relevant colleges and departments, senior professors and experts will give lectures on teaching and related topics. Each lecture will be mandatory for teachers at and below associate professor level of the college or department concerned to attend, and will be open to all teachers of STA. The lectures will be presided over by the leaders of the relevant colleges and departments in charge of undergraduate teaching, and the contents of the lectures will be recorded and collated. Press releases about the lectures attaching photos taken on the spot will need to be submitted to the Academic Affairs Office for filing and also published on the websites of the respective colleges and departments. This work will be included as an important part of the annual teaching assessment of the colleges and departments concerned.

On the afternoon of 8 November, Associate Professor Wu Yanhua of Fudan University was invited to give a lecture on "How to Prepare for Teaching". This was also the first lecture in the Lecture Series on Improving Teachers' Teaching Ability". The lecture was attended by the young teachers of the various colleges and departments. Professor Wu Yanhua's lecture mainly focused on four aspects, i.e. curriculum positioning, detailed syllabus, understanding students, and teaching research.

After the lecture, the participating teachers and Associate Professor Wu had a full interaction during which they discussed the issues encountered and the measures taken in the teacher-student interaction in the actual teaching practice. In particular, they had a warm discussion on the construction of online courses and the design of mixed teaching methods.
