Cultural Fusion brings Warm Feeling to Britain - STA successfully co-sponsors "Spring Festival Gala" of Chinese Students and Scholars Association UK

On 28 January, a cultural feast was staged at the Sadler's Wells Theatre in London under the guidance of the Education Department of the Chinese Embassy in the UK, sponsored by the Chinese Students and Scholars Association UK (CSSA UK) and co-sponsored by the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA). Students and artists from the Royal Academy of Music, Oxford University and Tsinghua University participated in the event jointly presenting a Chinese and Western cultural feast.

At the invitation of the CSSA UK and with the coordination of the Education Department of the Chinese Embassy in the UK, the STA College of Dance, as the representative of STA, sent the greetings from the motherland and brought the warmth of the Chinese New Year to Chinese students at overseas with the wonderful performance of “Red”, “Girls and Rain of the Dai Nationality” and “Beauty”.

On the evening of the performance, Liu Xiaoming, Chinese Ambassador to the UK, Lou Wei, Party Secretary of STA, Stephen Perry, Chairman of 48 Group Club, responsible people from the UK Department of Education, British Council, International Affairs Office of UK Education Network, responsible people and representatives of more than 30 universities including the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama of London University, Cambridge University and Edinburgh University etc, as well as representatives of some Chinese institutions in the UK and media representatives, totaling more than 1500 people, attended the performance.

The theme of the gala was "Our Journey, Our Dreams” featuring the fusion of Chinese and western cultures as its highlight. The gala began in the poetic dance “Red” performed by the STA College of Dance, followed by the music “Jasmine Flower” played by the students of the Royal Academy of Music and bilingual song “You and Me” sung by Chinese and English artists etc. The gala was highly praised by both Chinese and foreign audiences. CCTV, Nouvelles d'Europe and the mainstream British media reported on the event.

On 29 January, the Education Department of the Chinese Embassy in the UK held the "2019 CSSA UK Spring Festival Gala Wrap-up & Thank-you Reception”, and the STA performance delegation was invited to attend. Lou Wei, Party Secretary of STA, delivered a speech, and Xiao Ying, teacher of STA, spoke on behalf of the performance delegation. Wang Yongli, Minister-Counsellor (Education) and Xia Jianhui, Counsellor (Education) of the Chinese Embassy in the UK, and Zhang Cen, Chairman of CSSA UK, spoke highly of the artistic level and professionalism of the STA performance delegation. Counsellor Xia Jianhui said that this year’s gala had the best organization and the best content among all of the CSSA UK Spring Festival Galas that had been held so far. At the thank-you reception, Minister-Counsellor Wang Yongli presented the certificate of appreciation to the STA performance delegation.
