The 34th Tian Han Theatre Award is Announced

Sponsored by the Shanghai Theatre Academy, the All-China Theatrical Journals Alliance and the Organizing Committee of Tianhan Theatre Award, and co-sponsored by the Dramaturgy Studies Centre of Shanghai Theatre Academy and the Creation Centre of Shanghai Theatre Academy, the Editors-in-Chief Annual Meeting of All-China Theatrical Journals Alliance and the Selection of the 34th Tianhan Theatre Award was successfully held in the Shanghai Theatre Academy on 31 October through a combination of online and offline participation.


The opening ceremony was presided over by Prof Pan Jianhua, Chairman of the All-China Theatrical Journals Alliance. At the meeting, Ms Guo Cuijun, senior judge of Tianhan Theatre Award, introduced the course of holding Tianhan Theatre Award in the past 34 years. As an important part of this year's Tian Han Theatre Award, Mr Zhang Wenjun, Secretary General of the Organizing Committee, presented the appointment letter for chairman of the jury of Tian Han Theatre Award to Professor Huang Changyong, President of Shanghai Theatre Academy.


As many as 23 journals participated in the selection of this year’s Tian Han Theatre Award. According to the selection of 26 judges, 27 works won the first, second and third prizes the Script Award respectively; 33 articles won the first, second and third prizes of the Theory Award respectively; 29 articles won the first, second and third prizes of the Criticism Award respectively; and three works won the Best Play Award of this year’s Tian Han Theatre Award.


After the selection, experts from all over the country put forward their opinions and suggestions on how to better play the role of the All-China Theatrical Journals Alliance and further enhance the authority and influence of Tian Han Theatre Award in the future.


The Tian Han Theatre Award has been held for 34 years. Named after Mr Tian Han, the award was initiated by the Theatrical Journals Alliance of Seven Provinces and Municipalities in East China in 1987, and gradually expanded into an academic award selection event sponsored by the China Tian Han Research Association and the Tianhan Theatre Award Organizing Committee, and organized by each of the 23 theatrical journals across the country in turn. With all entries to be recommended by various journals and evaluated by experts, the Tian Han Theatre Award has a high value, and enjoys a great influence in Chinese and overseas theatre circles.
