STA Successfully Holds the 2020 Shanghai Academic Forum of Graduate Students and the 13th Yangtze River Delta Academic Forum of Graduate Students Majoring in Theatre, Film and Television

From 31 October to 1 November 2020, the Shanghai Academic Forum of Graduate Students and the 13th Yangtze River Delta Academic Forum of Graduate Students Majoring in Theatre,Film and Television, sponsored by the Degree Office of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and hosted by the Graduate School of Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA), were successfully held in Shanghai Theatre Academy.

On the morning of 31 October, the opening ceremony of the forum was held in the Foxi Building. Professor Li Zhenlin, Dean of the STA Graduate School and Dean of the STA College of Film and Television, Professor Wu Baohe of STA, teacher Guo Tian and teacher Wen Tao of the STA Graduate School attended the opening ceremony of the forum, which was presided over by teacher Han Shuang of the STA Graduate School.

First of all, Professor Li Zhenlin, on behalf of STA, welcomed the representatives of postgraduate students who participated in the forum online and offline. Due to the impact of the COVID-19, the forum was set forin-person participation at the offline main venue and the remote participation via online connection, and the entire forum was also broadcast live. Professor Li Zhenlin reviewed the development of the Yangtze River Delta Forum of Graduate Students over the past 13 years, gave full recognition to the importance of the “Belt and Road theme of this year’s forum, and put forward a message of expectation to the students in terms of academic research.

This forum invited Professor Wu Baohe of STA to give a keynote speech entitled "National Discourse and Industrial Strategy: TheCharacteristics of Domestic Film Creation in Recent Years". The forum invited Professor Zhou Bin and Professor Zhang Zhenhua of the Fudan University, Professor Qu Chunjing of the Shanghai University and Professor Liu Minghou of STA to form the panel of experts.

The forum had six paper presentation sessions over two days in which 43 PhD and MA students from 21 universities across China freely expressed their views on the theme of Studies of the Theatre, Film and Television Works of the Belt and Road Countries. They broke the boundaries of space by way of online and offline participation, and carried out warm discussions in which they sought common ground while reserving differences and achieved mutual enhancement. The invited experts made comprehensive and detailed summaries and comments on the papers of graduate students.

According tothe evaluation and recommendation by the invited experts, ten graduate students were awarded the Excellent Paper award of this years forum. The 13th Yangtze River Delta Academic Forum of Graduate Students Majoring in Theatre, Film and Television concluded successfully. This years forum tried the online and offline combined way of participation for the first time which gained favorable comments from all parties, and the interactive live broadcast also greatly improved the influence of the forum. According to the statistics of the live broadcast platform, more than 1000 people watched the live broadcast of the forum online in two days. After being held for 13 years consecutively, the forum has become a well-known academic exchange event in China, and has been actively responded to and supported by graduate students from major universities in the Yangtze River Delta region and even the whole country. We hope that more and more young students will come out of the Yangtze River Delta Academic Forum of Graduate Students Majoring in Theatre,Film and Television and become the backbone of the disciplines of theatre, film and television.
