First-Time Art Collision at “Post-Performance Talk Space”

On the evening of18October 2020,the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) heldthe post-performance talk after the first performance of thepracticum production "Camel Xiangzi" by the Class of 2017 students of the Acting Department and the Stage Design Department.Driven by the STA leadership and thanks to the joint efforts of the Academic Affairs Office, Graduate School, Student Affairs Office and Performing Arts Centre,"Post-PerformanceTalkSpace" is a real-time academic exchange space for performance creationwhich is locatedon the second floor oftheDuanjunTheatre. This space is also the first "real-time academic space for drama" that hasopened since STA began to usethe STAExperimentalTheatre andtheDuanjunTheatermainly for serving teaching. Through "free speech, collision of thoughts, academic exchangeand instant comment", we can strengthen the horizontal communication among various majors in drama performance creation, and form a new talent training mode with teaching performance as the leading factorwhich is combined withinstant academic discussion and comment.

Huang Changyong, Deputy Party Secretary and President of STA, Shen Liang, Director of the Academic Affairs Office, Yi Tianfu, Director of the Performing Arts Center, attended the event. President Huang Changyong gave full recognition to the establishment of "Post-Performance Talk Space". He hoped to use the two space concepts of "inside the theatre & outside the theatre", i.e. "in & out" to create ain & out linkage space, so as to bring drama from inside the theater to life, and use living space to influence stage creation, thus unfolding drama in the "omnidirectional space". In the process of promoting enhanced theater management and artistic creation, talents training should go from the inside to the outside, thus creating a new highlight in STAs talents training. Yi Tianfu, Director of the Performing Arts Centre, also talked about pursuing professionalism of communication, stressing sincerity of process and, especially, advocating equality in the process of academic exchange to ensure that everyone expresses their own opinions and respects the views of others.

The "post-performance talk" was moderated by Yi Tianfu, Director of the Performing Arts Center, and Tong Shanshan, producer ofCamel Xiangzi. Guo Hongbo, director, Jiang Minghui, stage design instructor, Shen Qian, lighting design instructor, Feng Yanrong, costume design instructor, Chen Ruhua, multimedia design instructor, and other teachers and students who were members of the main creation team participated in the talk.

"Post-Performance Talk Space" is open to teachers and students of STA as well as audience from the society. It strives for diversity and sharing, so as to build an internationalized drama platform of the Shanghai Theatre Academy and provide better teaching resources for teaching creation.
