17 September 2020

This was a special farewell, as the seven students of the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) were about to join the People’s Liberation Army (PLA). On 14 September, STA held the farewell meeting for new recruits of 2020 in Songjiang. Wearing big red flowers and with neat military appearance, when the new recruits appeared in front of the teachers and parents who came to see them off, there was a burst of warm applause.

Every year, there will be a group of STA students to join the PLA. This year, several vigorous young people have added to this “green” landscape of STA. They are:

- Pan Chaohui (Grade 2016, Theatre Education, Department of Theatre, Film and TV Literature)

- Zhang Mengxue (BA Grade 2016 , Painting & MA Grade 2020, Oil Painting, Department of Stage Design)

- Huang Yuanyuan (Grade 2016, Art Management, College of Creative Studies)

- Meng Lingqi (Grade 2016, Lighting Design, Department of Stage Design)

- Wang zi Chufan (Grade 2017, Peking Opera Performance, College of Chinese Opera)

- Zou Yifan (Grade 2018, Music for Chinese Opera, College of Chinese Opera)

This was a special reunion, as four STA students who joined the PLA several years ago were also present at the farewell meeting. They had just retired from the PLA not long ago and were invited back to train the new recruits of 2020 from STA.

Participating in the meeting from STA were: Li Dongmei, Director of the Student Affairs Office cum Director of the People’s Armed Forces Department; Chen Changfu, Director of the Logistics and Security Office; Fang Jun, Deputy Director of the Publicity Department of the CPC STA Committee; Guo Chenyan, Deputy Director of the Academic Affairs Department; and Zhu Feng, Sun Lei, Wang Xiaoli and Tang Fang who are deputy secretaries of the Department of Acting, Department of Stage Design, College of Chinese Opera and College of Creative Studies respectively, as well as teachers and counselors of relevant colleges and departments.
