On the afternoon of 6 July 2020, the "STA Art Season 2020 Special Edition" was officially launched in the New Space Theater of Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA). Xie Wei, Party Secretary of STA, and Huang Changyong, Deputy Party Secretary and President of STA, attended the launching ceremony, which was presided over by Yi Tianfu, Dean of the Department of Stage Design, Director of the Performing Arts Center and Director of the United Front Work Department.

What is STA Art Season

As a brand project of Shanghai Theatre Academy to showcase the achievements of teaching and learning, the STA Art Season has been successfully held for eight times.

This art season is held to showcase the graduation performances, graduation exhibitions of various majors in STA and other artistic creations from teachers and students, and to upgrade the teaching works into mature and excellent works that are marketable to the society through a certain degree of polishing.

Shanghai Theatre Academy adheres to the concept of constructing a "platform university", and is committed to building a complete art teaching chain, drawing on multiple social resources to participate in the integration, so as to promote the closer integration of teaching and practice. Over the years, the STA Art Season has gradually become an incubation and display platform for excellent teaching works, and also a platform for constant improvement that is open to tests by the society and market.

What will happen in STA Art Season this year

2020 is a very special year, and the STA Art Season has also been postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Now, it will meet with you in the form of "2020 Special Edition" which will showcase 16 performance and exhibition works through the online platform for six consecutive days. The graduation works of the Acting Department (including the Musical Drama Center), the Directing Department, the Stage Design Department, the Dance College, the Chinese Opera College, the Film and Television College, and the Creative Studies College will all be included in it.

During the fight against COVID-19, Shanghai Theatre Academy has been persistent in promoting the combination of "online teaching" with "online performance" and "online exhibition". The fact that teachers and students are unable to be present on site for rehearsal or production of works is not only a great challenge but also a potential opportunity. The attempt and exploration of "online performance" has created a new mode of art teaching. It is worth mentioning that with the artistic spirit of being courageous to take up responsibilities and facing the realities of life, the teachers and students of STA created two original works, namely, the large-scale drama "Nurses Diary" and the radio drama "Target! Wuhan.

The STA Art Season 2020 Special Edition reflects the cultural expression of the STAers to the city, the society, the country and the world. We take cultural responsibility as the frontier, take the social responsibility as our own responsibility and aim for the integration of art and thinking.

Shen Liang, Director of the Academic Affairs Office, Wang Xueming, Party Branch Secretary of the Acting Department, Dong Jian, Vice Dean of the Film and Television College, and Shi Hao, exhibition representative, as well as more than 20 reporters and media representatives, attended the launching ceremony.
