On 28 June2020, the Chinese Drama Research Center of Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) held an online seminar on "Theatre Criticism and Contemporary Theatre" in conjunction with the Chinese Drama Theory and History Research Society. The seminar was presided over by Chen Jun, Dean of the Department of Theatrical Literature of STA. More than 20 domestic experts on theatre criticism expressed their opinions on the current issues of theatre criticism via the Tencent Meeting platform, and provided opinions and suggestions for the preparation of the publication of “Theatre Criticism”, the collected papers of STA. The journal has Professor Yang Yang, Vice President of STA, as the editor-in-chief, Professor Ding Luonan as the special advisor, and Professor Tang Yipei, Professor Chen Jun and other well-known industry experts as the members of the editorial board. The journal intends to open such columns as "Review of Plays", "Phenomenological Criticism", "Famous Artists Talk about Drama" and "Criticism on Foreign Theatre" etc. It aims to publish high-level theatre criticism, attach importance to the academic nature and theoretical discussion of theatre criticism, emphasize the diversity and leading nature of criticism, strengthen the contact and exchange of theatre critics at home and abroad, and provide an exchange platform for experts, scholars and young and middle-aged critics who are committed to theatre criticism.
