On 29 June, the Shanghai Municipal Education and Health Working Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and theMemorialMuseum of the1stNational Congress of the Communist Party of China jointly organized a theme activityofcelebrating the 99th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and patriotic education for students with the theme of "Responders in theNewEra".
In this activity, teachers and students of ShanghaiTheatre Academy (STA) successfully performed the drama“Chen Wangdao” (Playwright: Huangxi).What everyone did not expect was that, on the second day after the performance, Xi Jinping,General-Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of the People’s Republic of ChinaandChairman of the Military Commission of the CPC Central Committee, wrote a replyletterto allthemembers of theCPC membersvolunteer service team of“TheCommunist Manifesto”Museumof Fudan University.
After reading the letter from theGeneral-Secretary, all the teachers and students of the cast of“Chen Wangdao” were greatly inspired andhadtheir inner passion ignited again. They were proud that they could perform and interpret the story of Chen Wangdao translating“The Communist Manifesto” in front ofthesite of the 1st CPC National Congress.
The part of the drama“Chen Wangdao” that the teachers and students of STA have performed and interpreted tells the story of Chen Wangdao, a young man at that time,working tirelesslyin a dilapidated firewoodstoragehouse under a dim kerosene lamp and completing the translation of the first Chinese version of“The CommunistManifesto”In only two months. Because of his concentration andintentness, when eatingtherice dumplingsent byhis mother, he mistakenly dipped it into the inkinstead of thebrown sugar, and ate the rice dumpling without realizing it at all. When his mother asked him“delicious or not”, heeven replied "very sweet",and this is the origin of"the taste of truth is very sweet".
The teachers and students who participated in the performancehavestrengthened their belief inadheringto theoriginalaspiration, andare proud to be able toput "only when you have faith in your heart can you travel far away" into practice.
On 30 June, the teachers and students of Shanghai Theater Academy who are CPC members studied the spirit of the important reply letter from General-Secretary Xi Jinping. They expressed that in combination with the study of“four histories”, they would present more inspiring China stories on the stage of drama.
