On the morning of 4 January, the opening ceremony of Winter Institute 2020 was held in the New Space Theater of Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA). Yang Yang, Vice President of STA, delivered a welcome speech, and Chantal Rodriguez, Vice Dean of Yale School of Drama, delivered a speech on behalf of the cooperative universities. Samantha Sanford, a student of STA majoring in intercultural communication, and Temiloluwa Omitoogun, a student of MIT, made brief speeches as student representatives of this year’s Winter Institute. After the opening ceremony, Vice President Yang Yang gave the first lecture of this year’s Winter College, i.e. The City and Modern New Art in China. The 10-day-long 2020 Winter Institute officially opened. The Winter Institute program was founded in 2012 and has been held for nine consecutive years. This year’s Winter Institute is hosted by STA and co-sponsored by top American universities including Brown, MIT, NYU, USC and Yale. During the Winter Institute this year, 16 Chinese and American scholars and professors will give lectures and workshops to more than 100 students.
