Award ceremony of STA’s first “Wisteria Cup” Postgraduate Student Original Script Competition is held successfully

On 29 November, the award ceremony of the first Wisteria Cup Postgraduate Student Original Script Competition of Shanghai Drama Academy (STA) was held in Room 208, Red Building.

The first Wisteria Cup Postgraduate Student Original Script Competition is an important initiative of STA’s First-class Postgraduate Education Leading Plan. It aims to increase the enthusiasm of postgraduate students for creation, and incubate excellent original scripts; gradually launch impactful original masterpieces of postgraduate students on the theme of reflecting the history of Shanghai and telling the stories of Shanghai stories, thus helping to promote more excellent works that show the characteristics of the times, China and Shanghai; and, in the meantime, give full play to the characteristics and advantages of STA in talent cultivation, and realize the objective of constructing a platform-type university.

In June 2019, the Graduate School of STA launched the first Wisteria Cup Postgraduate Student Original Script Competition. During the three-month call for submission period, 55 scripts for the different types including drama (including musical drama), Chinese opera and short film etc were received from master’s degree students and doctoral students of three different years. After expert evaluation, 15 excellent original scripts of postgraduate students were finally selected.

After the award ceremony, the Graduate School specially invited Zhang Wenjun, one of the evaluation experts for this script competition, to give a lecture entitled The Style of Young Playwrights.

The Graduate School will give priority to some of the award-winning scripts in terms of funding support for rehearsal and performance, and will include them in STA’s “Wisteria Bloom” Postgraduate Student Performance Season in 2020.
