Thoughts, models and works of Shanghai Theatre Academy shine at Yangtze River Delta International Cultural Industries Expo

Since the integrated regional development of the Yangtze River Delta became a national strategy, building a platform for cultural development in the Yangtze River Delta has become an important topic. From 21 to 24 November, hosted by the publicity departments of the Party committees of Shanghai Municipality, Jiangsu Province, Zhejiang Province and Anhui Province in the Yangtze River Delta region, the 2nd Yangtze River Delta International Cultural Industries Expo was held in Shanghai. The Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) actively responded to the national strategy and provided a series of wonderful contents for this year’s Yangtze River Delta International Cultural Industries Expo.

The keynote forum held on the opening day of the Yangtze River Delta Cultural Industries Expo was on the theme of Cultural Cooperation and Higher Quality Integration in the Yangtze River Delta. Huang Changyong, President of STA, made a keynote speech entitled Building a Community of Cultural Development in the Yangtze River Delta: Current Situation, Issues and Pathways at the forum.

The 2019 Yangtze River Delta Cities Culture Development Forum was one of a series of forums at this year’s Yangtze River Delta Cultural Industries Expo, which was hosted by STA and held in the New Space Theater on STA’s Huashan Road Campus. This forum was also a project undertaken by STA under the 2019 Shanghai Universities Think Tank Program. It focused on City, Culture, Brand - Industrial Development in the Yangtze River Delta Cities, and discussed the new modes and new trends of high-quality cultural development in the Yangtze River Delta cities in the new era and with the new concept.

At the opening ceremony of the forum, Huang Changyong, President of STA, on behalf of the research team, released the “Culture Report of Chinese Cities 2018-2019 (Yangtze River Delta Volume) on behalf of the research team, and jointly opened the Research Centre for Culture Data of Cities with Xu Zhiwei, Director of Data Services, Shanghai Data Trading Center. The cooperation between STA and Shanghai Data Exchange Center focuses on the construction of big data platform for culture, and will vigorously promote the in-depth development of culture research in the Yangtze River Delta cities.

The keynote speakers invited to the forum included Chen Ping, founding president of the National Centre for the Performing Arts and Chairman of the Beijing Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Zhou Hanmin, Vice Chairman of the China National Democratic Construction Association Central Committee and Vice Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Shanghai Municipal Committee, Liu Shilin, Director of the Urban Science Research Institute of Shanghai Jiaotong University, and Liu Deliang, President of Beijing Xinyuan Think Tank. In addition, a group of experts and scholars from the Yangtze River Delta region also gathered to discuss such topics as cultural differences, complementarities and symbiosis in the Yangtze River Delta region and pathways and methods for the integrated development of cultural and tourist industries in the Yangtze River Delta region etc.

The 2nd Yangtze River Delta International Cultural Industries Expo also set up a cultural and creative education exhibition area in its main, i.e. the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), which attracted the attention from all walks of life. STA participated in the exhibition, together with more than 20 higher education institutions from home and abroad as such Shanghai Jiaotong University, Tongji University, Donghua University, Shanghai University of Technology, Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Shanghai New York University, University of Southern California, University of Florida, King's College London, Goldsmith, and London University, to show the achievements and characteristics of STA’s cultural and creative education. The theme of STA’s exhibition was drama plus ideological and political education, integration of culture and creativity.
