STA College of Chinese Traditional Opera holds a teaching seminar on Peking Opera Performance major and Chinese Traditional Opera Music major

On the morning of 20 June, the College of Chinese Traditional Opera of Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) held a teaching seminar on the Peking Opera Performance major and the Chinese Traditional Opera major for the first half of 2019. 10 industry experts, leaders and senior teachers were invited to the teaching seminar to work together with the leaders of the College and some of the teachers of the specialized courses to discuss the strategies and provide suggestions for the development of the College. The meeting was presided over by Jin Xiquan, Deputy Dean of the College  of Chinese Traditional Opera.

First of all, the experts participating in the seminar commented on the stage performance of nine plays rehearsed and performed by the College of Chinese Traditional Opera in the first half of the year, such as “The Legend of White Snake”, “Continued Love over the Wall”, teacher-student joint performance series, and teaching result showcase of the College’s Peking Opera and Kunqu Opera troupe, and substantively pointed out the strengths and weaknesses of the actors. The precise and sophisticated comments made and, especially, the solutions proposed by the experts were greatly beneficial to the students, and would further enhance the College’s efforts to promote learning through performance, promote teaching through evaluation and make teaching benefit both teachers and students. The experts and teachers at the meeting expressed their insights from teaching, practice, talent cultivation, teachers’ capacity building, curriculum design, enrollment plan and other aspects, and their words were full of care and expectations for the development of the College and the cultivation of students.

 

Ma Bomin, Director of the Shanghai Peking Opera and Kunqu Opera Art Development Advisory Committee, has always cared about the development of the College of Chinese Traditional Opera. At the meeting, she pointed out the implementing direction of pioneering development in connection with the secondary vocational school-undergraduate articulation programs and culture-education integration projects, and put forward the implementation plan with regard to the planning of talent cultivation for Chinese traditional opera and the development of the College of Chinese Traditional   Opera. Xu Xingjie, former Dean of the College of Chinese Traditional Opera, put forward the planning and layout ideas of “one platform, two standards and three suggestions” according to the current situation of the development of the College. Wang Shimin, Lu Yiping, Li Qiuping, Tong Qiang, Shen Qilang, Wang Lijun and other experts and teachers spoke one after another, and engaged in heated discussions from time to time on key issues. From classroom to stage, from practice to theory, from research to application, they analyzed and summed up the teaching achievements of the College from different angles, and discussed reform measures from many different angles.

 

At the end of the meeting, Li Peihong, Dean of the College, Huang Tunwei, Deputy Dean of the College, and Wang Xiaoli, Deputy Party Secretary of the College, spoke one after another, sincerely thanking the experts and teachers for their concern and suggestions on the development of the College, and expressing that the leadership group of the College will make an earnest and careful review and that the leadership group has the responsibility and confidence to lead all teachers and students to accomplish the work of the College in a solid and detailed manner, and move forward hand in hand to build up the education centre for Chinese traditional opera.
