From 25 to 26 May 25, the May 4th Movement and Chinese Drama High-Level Academic Forum was held in Shanghai. The seminar was sponsored by the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) and the Chinese Society of Drama Theory and History, organized by the Department of Theatrical Literature of STA and the Chinese Drama Research Centre of STA, and co-organized by the Drama Research Institute of the Chinese National Academy of Arts and the Editorial Department of “Theatrical Arts”.
The opening ceremony was chaired by Professor Yang Yang, Vice President of STA, and addressed by Professor Huang Changyong, President of STA, and Professor Hu Zhiyi, President of the Chinese Society of Drama Theory and History Research. Nearly 50 experts and scholars from Zhejiang University, Nanjing University, Communication University of China, Soochow University, Nanjing Normal University, South China Normal University, Fujian Normal University, Chinese National Academy of Arts, Central Academy of Drama, Yunnan Arts University, Shandong University of Arts and Guangxi Arts Institute etc attended the forum.
The keynote speech session was presided over by Professor Chen Jun, Dean of the Department of Theatrical Literature of STA. Eight professors from Yunnan Arts University, Zhejiang University, Soochow University, Central Academy of Drama, Nanjing University, Hangzhou Normal University and Nanjing Normal University made brilliant keynote speeches.
During the group discussion session of the forum, the participants held heated discussions on a number of aspects such as the ideological spectrum of the May 4th Movement, spiritual tradition, drama society, stage aesthetics, creative methods and drama education, as well as on a number of categories such as writers' works, performing and directing arts, stage design and other categories, which covered almost all aspects of the relationship between the May 4th Movement and Chinese drama.
