STA holds 2019 Graduates Employment Promotion Meeting

In order to further strengthen the employment advice and service for graduates, improve the quality of graduates' employment, and earnestly do a good job in the employment work for graduates of various colleges and departments, the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) held the 2019 Graduates Employment Promotion Meeting in the conference room on the first floor of the Foxi Building on the morning of 16 May. The meeting was attended by the Party branch secretaries of various colleges and departments, staff of the Student Affairs Division and all student counselors. The meeting was chaired by Zhang Weiling, Deputy Party Secretary and Vice President of STA.

Zhang Guoli of the Student Affairs Division first provided a briefing on the overall progress of the employment work concerning the graduates of Year 2019 and the work trends of various colleges and departments, and introduced the general situation of STA’s employment and entrepreneurship work for graduates. For the graduates of 2019, in terms of campus recruitment, two large-scale comprehensive job fairs and two college and department-specific job fairs were held, offering 2,369 positions in total, and 426 recruitment tweets were posted through the official Wechat account STA Employment. In terms of presentation sessions, four employers’ presentation sessions were held. In terms of entrepreneurship work, six entrepreneurship workshops were held, and 23 entrepreneurship teams and 81 persons participated in the entrepreneurship activities through the entrepreneurship practical training camps and entrepreneurship competitions which were matched with RMB120,000 yuan of entrepreneurship awards and RMB1.5 million yuan of angle investment. In terms of career development education, a series of nine workshops including Alumni Talk, Law, “Studying Abroad and Career Planning were held, with 408 participants.

Each college and department reported the current employment status of and difficulties encountered by the graduates of Year 2019 as well as the measures for the next steps. All colleges and departments have been actively providing employment information, liaising with potential employers and holding special job fairs for students through multiple channels both online and offline. A series of measures have been taken to exploit all available resources to promote student employment through alumni talks, assistance with teachers’ own resources, and one-on-one precise guidance etc.

  

Finally, Zhang Weiling, Deputy Secretary and Vice President of STA, conveyed the spirit of the National Teleconference on Employment and Entrepreneurship of Graduates of Tertiary Institutions. He fully acknowledged the achievements of various colleges and departments in the work concerning the employment for graduates, and put forward requirements in three aspects, i.e. graduation, employment and the quality of employment for graduates. He made it clear that the work concerning the employment for graduates requires the strengthened leadership and full participation in all colleges and departments which should take employment guidance, employment education and employment services as the starting point, and strengthen the ideological education of graduates, improved the working mechanism of teacher-student interaction, steadily increase the employment rate and ensure the quality of employment.

In view of the work concerning the employment for graduates in the next stage, he pointed out that the work concerning the employment of graduates is of great significance, and that the quality and level of employment for graduates is an important indicator to measure the cultivation of talents by a university and, therefore, all colleges and departments should pay close attention to the employment for graduates and make the work concerning the employment for graduates even more detailed and concrete. Mobilizing and counseling work should be well conducted for graduates who are slow in securing employment or unemployed. Guidance and services should be provided to graduates who have the desire for employment but encounter difficulties with employment; Special attention should be given to graduates from financial disadvantaged families and graduates of ethnic minority background. Strict administration should apply to students who are contracted trainees sent by other organizations.
