On one hand, the gloom equipped Chekhov's plays with distinctive artistic features; on the other hand, the gloom combined with the humorous character of the play writer, and the two were interpreting each other. The humor conceals deeper gloomy feelings, which is a reserved humor, yet the most profound humor in Chekhov's art world of the plays. The humor shows the cold nature of Chekhov. His harsh perspective provided him the chance to think calmly about the human existence in his creation of the plays. He scrutinizes the life and experience calmly, and this overlooking perspective was the reason that Chekhov's comedy gains a deeper comedy nature than the mere hilarious show.
