Arts Discipline: the Engineering of that in Literature
  Li Zhenlin
Abstract: A reasonable, foresighted, an strategic thinking is needed in the upgrading of art studies as a discipline, the opportunity of which could be taken to clarify the structural system of arts. Thus we should pay attention to the following three tendencies: first, the “surging increase of enrollment” of arts postgraduates ; second, the continuing appliance of the academic frameworks and evaluation standards of literature; third, the control and leadership remaining to be in the hand of theorists. Therefore, basic concepts listed below should be conceived: creation ability should rank as the major academic standard in arts; systematic terms of arts should be formulated; the assessment system within the discipline of arts should be established, as well as remolded and designed, which entails strengthened association with the discipline of literature, focus on classified management and construction of arts education, blending of and complement between different disciplines and majors, and emphasis and expansion of training on advanced artists of creativity.

On the Formation of Beijing Opera's Phonetic Standards and its Early Practice
  Zhang Weipin
Abstract: The unification of stage and phonetics is inevitable within different theaters. In terms of the cultural sense, the formation of a certain theatre's phonetic standards would certainly influence its performing concept, aesthetic orientation, and standard of value. Both interior and exterior factors contributed to the unification of stage and phonetics, which gradually took place decades after the Anhui opera troops came to Beijing. Cheng Changgeng launched an over-all construction of Beijing opera at its initial period. In terms of cultural selection, it facilitated the tendency of folk culture styles actively embracing the influences of literatures and culture, corresponding to the pattern, at that time, of all cultural styles marching towards advanced culture. Then a new pattern emerged as Tan Xinpei gave a comprehensive integration of Beijing opera performances, phonetics included. The practice of this pattern continued as the phonetic standards established by Tan became increasingly influential in the progressing of Beijing opera: the standard of Kunqu opera, which integrated in a comprehensive and intensive way with the increasingly mature tune of Beijing opera and acclimatized itself to the opera environment at that time, emerged with a complicated situation due to Tan's personal reasons.
