The China Shanghai International Art Festival will be held in October this year. As a permanent program of the festival, the Rising Artists' Works (RAW) will be held again during this year’s arts festival, having been held successfully twice. Yesterday, 14 “contractted works” and 160 “invited events” were launched at the New Space Theatre of the Shanghai Theatre Academy. The venues for RAW this year will be expanded from those on the Huashan Road Campus of the Shanghai Theatre Academy in last year to also include the Black Box Theatre and Dongpai Theatre within the same campus and, at the same time, reach out to include the Lianhua Road Campus of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, Malanhua Theatre, Heluting Concert Hall, Shanghai Concert Hall and Concert Hall of Shanghai Symphony Orchestra as the satellite venues.

The “contracted works” section of RAW this year is open to young art talents all over the world and has received the applications from over 100 young Chinese artists for participation in the selection process. RAW has attracted an increasingly large number of young creators to take Shanghai as an important creation base.

Besides the existing selective workshops, this year’s Shanghai International Arts Festival has invited a galaxy of artistic masters, such Tan Dun (famous composer/conductor), Lin Huaimin (famous dancer), Yang Liping (famous dancer) and Tian Qinxin (modern drama director) etc., to form an artistic committee and provide hands-on and one-on-one tutorial to young artists in the form of “special workshops”. 14 original works of young artists will give their premiere during the opening sessions of the 16th China Shanghai International Art Festival.

This year, RAW will have 300 “invited events”, a significant increase from last year’s 200 events. Creative and crossover are the key words of the events this year. In order for the programs to be even more entertaining, the festival has specially invited a good collection of creative performances from home and abroad. During the festival, there will also be theatrical costume parade and mixed concert.
