At the invitation of the Clothology Research Centre of Universidade Sao Paulo (USP), ABEPEM, OISTAT and FAPESP, Prof Xu Jiahua of the Stage Design Department of the Shanghai Theatre Academy visited Brazil during the 2014 summer vacation for exchange activities organized by SIEP FIGURINO and hosted the workshop on the theme of Chinese theatrical costumes, Peking opera facial masks and costume design. Accompanying Prof Xu Jiahua and joining her in the exchange activities were Fan Congbo and Wu Xian, two teachers of the costume and make-up teaching office of the department of stage design.
Over 30 teachers and students from different universities and cities in Brazil participated in the workshop. The workshop was a great success. On the last day, the students created fashionable facial masks with Chinese theatrical elements and demonstrated their works at the presentation and discussion meeting. Prof Xu Jiahua’s workshop in Brazil was highly appraised by the students and organizers. Brazil TV also did a special interview with Prof Xu Jiahua.
