STA holds 2014-2015 school year opening ceremony & teacher’s day celebration

On the morning of 10 September which was also the national teacher’s day in China, the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) held its 2014-2015 school year opening ceremony and teacher’s day celebration at the STA Theatre. STA leaders Lou Wei, Han Sheng, Huang Changyong, Gong Baorong and Zhang Weiling, as well as the heads of the various colleges and departments, attended the event and took seat on the rostrum. The ceremony and celebration was chaired by Vice President Huang Changyong. All of the Year 2014 new students, teachers and staff members with 30 years (25 years for female) of service in education, retiring teachers and staff members, as well as the head teachers and tutors of the Year 2014 classes participated in the event together.

First of all, Vice President Zhang Weiling announced the name list of the teachers and staff members with 30 years service in education and retiring teachers and staff members. Student representatives presented fresh flowers to these teachers and staff members as a token of gratitude for their tireless efforts and valuable contribution.

At the ceremony, the newly recruited teachers and staff members and all new students stood up and put on the university badge together. Led by Deputy Dean of Chinese Traditional Opera College Wang Lijun, the new teachers made a solemn oath on the stage.

After that, Tang Xiao Li, a new student of the Department of Theatrical Literature and London Summers, a new student of the International Exchange Centre, went onto the stage to give speeches on behalf of all new students from home and abroad. Dean of Musical Theatre Centre Wang Luoyong gave a speech on behalf of all teachers. Then, Tian Shui, a Year 1986 graduate of the Acting Department, who is now a National Grade A actress, winner of best actress award of Zuolin Theatre Art Awards and winner of acting award of China Modern Drama Gold Lion Awards, gave a speech as an alumni representative.

STA President Han Sheng made an important speech. On the occasion of the teacher’s day, he proposed that everyone present at the event should express sincere gratitude to their teachers at the university, middle school and primary school and to their parents as their first teachers in life. He expressed his best wishes to the new students hoping that their four years of university life at STA will become an unforgettable part of their memory in the entire life.

At last, the university flag handover ceremony was held. To the accompaniment of the STA anthem, STA Party Secretary Lou Wei took the flag from the hands of the representative of the old students and passed it over into the hands of the representative of the new students. All Year 2014 new students stood up and made a solemn oath in front of the STA flag which carries with it the dreams and mission. The conclusion of the opening ceremony was followed immediately by the beginning of the four-year university life. Let’s give our best wishes to the Year 2014 new students and expect with great confidence that they will thrive to achieve high on the stage provided by STA.
