In the evening of 4 June, the grand finals of Nahai Cup the 6th STA Short Sketch Competition & New Script Readings was held at the East Rehearsal Hall, 4th Floor, Read Building, Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA). This event was co-sponsored by STA’s Acting Department, Student Affairs Office, Youth League Committee and Play Writing Centre, and co-organized by the Nahai Drama Society, Acting Department Student Union and Theatrical Literature Department Student Union. It had been three months since the preparatory work for the competition first began. Seven short sketches, which were written, directed and acted all by the students of the different colleges/departments and specializations of STA, qualified for the grand finals, having gone through a very strict and highly competitive process of script approval, preliminaries and semi-finals.
Finally, “Courier Goddess”, the work by the students of the specialization of directing for Chinese traditional opera, won the first prize. It also won the best director award and best scriptwriter award. The second prize went to “Father and Son” and “Rural Teacher”. The third prize was shared by four short sketches, namely, “Listen to Your Heart”, “Intern Soldier”, “Return Home” and “Close but Apart”.
After the competition was over, the judges gave their expert comments. The organizing committee presented the first, second and third prizes as well as the best director, best scriptwriter and best actor awards to the relevant recipients. Thanks to the joint efforts of all involved, this year’s short sketch competition wrapped up successfully, leaving a rich experience and a profound feeling for each contestant on the stage and each team member behind the scene.
