Liao Fan receives You Bring Charm to the World Award presented by Prof He Yan

Co-sponsored by Phoenix Satellite Television and over a dozen of other Chinese language media both onshore and offshore, the 2013-2014 You Bring Charm to the World Award Ceremony was held at the Peking University Hall on 29 March. Liao Fan, a Year 1993 graduate of the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA)'s acting department was awarded the Culture and Arts Prize of the You Bring Charm to the World Award with the unanimous nomination by the organizing committee. Liao Fan attended at the award ceremony and received the award from his acting teacher during his study at STA, Prof Han Yan. As the party secretary and associate dean of STA's acting department, Prof He Yan was specially invited by the organizers to present the award to Liao Fan.


Liao Fan was the winner of the best actor award at the Singapore International Film Festival and one of the nominees for Taiwan Golden Horse Award for Best Actor. This year, for his performance in "Black Coal, Thin Ice", Liao Fan won the Silver Bear Award for Best Actor at the 64th Berlin International Film Festival and became the first-ever Chinese winner of that award. Liao Fan recalled what his teacher had once said to him during his university time - "Are you truly ready to be that uncrowned king?" 20 years later, Liao Fan felt that he was lucky as he had always been able to follow his heart and do the things that he liked to do and, in the meantime, retain his original intention and remain happy. He said that he felt fulfilled.


The award ceremony has come into its 7th year with the winners spreading across a spectrum of areas including politics, science and technology, sports, culture and arts etc. There were 11 award winners this year, including Tung Chee-hwa, the first Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR, Chen Yuao, the world's top scientist in quantum physics research, the crew members of Shenzhou-10 manned spacecraft, as well as Li Jianrou, Zhang Hong and Zhou Yang, the gold medalists of the 22nd Winter Olympic Games.
